“According to initial information, there is a 15% to 20% decrease in the number of Greek tourists at the Bulgarian mountain resort of Bansko over the past months because of the blockade of the Bulgarian-Greek border,” said Bansko Mayor Georgi Ikonomov, speaking for Radio FOCUS. “However, there is an increase in the number of Bulgarian tourists, as well as of tourists from Russia and Turkey,” the mayor added.
“There was a period in which the holidays of the schools in Turkey and Bulgaria coincided and then Bansko was full, despite the lack of Greek tourists,” Mr Ikonomov remarked. The mayor pointed out that the Greeks were still one of the best and most loyal tourists in Bulgaria.
